- UFC fighter and legendary boxer bury the hatchet after feud last year
- Irishman wishes Tyson well with his 40-acre marijuana ranch in California
Conor McGregor usually causes a stir with most things he posts on social media, but even by his standards the Irishman outdid himself on Monday.
The UFC star posted a picture of him appearing to smoke marijuana with Mike Tyson after meeting up with the legendary boxer in Dublin, Ireland.
“Some giggle off that Cherry Pick Kush,” he wrote, referencing the name of Tyson’s home-grown strain of marijuana.
In January, Tyson broke ground on a 40-acre marijuana farm called “Tyson Ranch” which he said at the time would act as a “cannabis resort”.
“It was good to meet you Mike,” the 30-year-old McGregor said in another Instagram post. “You spoke some things about me in the past which I did not like and I was happy to speak to you face to face, put it to bed and have some fun.”
McGregor took umbrage last year to Tyson saying he was “going to get killed” boxing Floyd Mayweather in the build-up to last year’s mega-money bout.
“McConor [sic] put his dumb a** in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby,” Tyson had said. “[He] can’t kick and grab and stuff so he won’t stand much of a chance. McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing.”
But the Irishman appeared to bury the hatchet over Tyson’s previous comments – though he did get in a few less-than subtle digs about Tyson declaring bankruptcy in 2003.
“You are in good spirits and I was happy to see this! I will always have the height of respect for you!” McGregor said.
“Some decisions you have made around your finances I do not agree with. As a fighter you must fight here. The most.
“And this is a fight that never ends. It is even a fight that we pass on to our next in line. Our blood line.
Make sure you stay switched on with those around you at all times. You have good people around you now, I can tell. But stay switched on.”
McGregor accompanied the caption with what he called an “iconic photograph” of Tyson smoking “as a gift from me to you”.
“Your Marijuana strain that you grow on your own ranch ‘KO Kush’ is really nice,” said McGregor, who launched his own “Proper Twelve” whiskey company earlier this year. “It was an honour to taste it and I wish you and your team all the best with this endeavour.
“Just remember, if someone tries to rip you. Rip their nose off their face. You are a fighting icon and deserve endless love and respect! And from me, you will always have it!
“Don’t let anyone take anything from you. You owe nobody nothing. It is you who is owed. Always remember that.
“I love you Mike! Iron Mike Tyson!”
