For the past two and a half years, Victor Berrios has been an integral part of the Zigbee Alliance team. Many members have worked alongside Victor in work groups and at test events, and the Alliance has recognized his invaluable involvement with Zigbee standards and member companies. Even before his current position on staff, Victor was involved with the Alliance in numerous roles since 2004, including as a member. Victor is a recognized expert in the short range wireless industry as evidenced by his contributions to the RF4CE Networking standard, ZigBee Remote Control, ZigBee Input Device, ZigBee Healthcare, and ZigBee Low Power End Device Specifications. He was recognized by the Continua Health Alliance as its Spring 2011 Key Contributor in recognition for his contributions to the success of the Test and Certification Work Group. To further strengthen the growth of the IoT market and Zigbee Alliance members, the Zigbee Alliance is pleased to announce that Victor has been named the Vice President of Technology. Why? In the past few years, months even, the IoT industry has experienced dramatic, rapid growth. This growth has brought forth an increasing need to further educate the market about Zigbee technology, support an influx of new members in their implementation of Zigbee standards, and manage technical interactions with industry liaison partners. What does this mean? Victor will continue to work with standard setting groups and managing technical programs, but he will also be involved in more public-facing opportunities to further educate the industry on the role of ZigBee standards as the foundation for the IoT. “I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve the Alliance membership in this new capacity”, said Victor about his new position. “We will continue to support the completion and release of Zigbee 3.0 to the market as well as extend our reach into the developer community with enhanced education and support services.” What’s next for the Alliance? A number of significant announcements have been released in the past months, including the Alliance’s collaboration with Thread, Mark Walters as VP of Strategic Development, and Victor Berrios as VP of Technology. These announcements demonstrate the Zigbee Alliance’s continued leadership as the IoT industrys needs evolve, leading the way to a unified, interoperable market. Check back soon for more news about the Alliance, including updates on Zigbee 3.0, the foundation for the IoT.
